Complete Decongestive Physiotherapy ("CDP") and Manual Lymph Drainage ("MLD") Treatment Options for Lymphedema Patients in New England

Because the choice of therapist is so important, each lymphedema patient is advised to check the credentials and training of their therapists. There are not yet any official training standards for CDP/MLD in the USA. However, the National Lymphedema Network (NLN) advises on its website (www.lymphnet.org): "We feel that a minimum of 80 hours of instruction is desirable and that above 120 hours is ideal."

Other Resources for People with Lymphedema

Extra Wide Shoes

We recently discovered a shoe store dedicated to making wide shoes since 1951. The store is officially for men, but if comfort is more important than style, even women are likely to find something suitable. They can mail you a catalog, or you can visit their warehouse store in Hingham, Mass. Apparently this is the only such store in the US, so we are very lucky to have it in the Boston area. Hitchcock Shoes.

Unconventional Health Care

If you are looking for more, try starting at the UnDoctored web site. Although Dr. William Davis does not specialize in lymphedema, his overall strategies for optimizing health might still give you some relief, especially if you have high blood sugar, joint pain or a thyroid condition. Watch some of his free video presentations and/or read his books, Wheat Belly or Undoctored.
